The Institute of Modern Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) presented the AI for ADANES roadmap at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The project is built around ADANES (Accelerator-based Advanced Nuclear Energy System), a platform that unifies functions such as nuclear fuel production, spent fuel transformation, and energy generation. Unlike conventional reactors, ADANES operates in a subcritical mode, fundamentally altering the safety paradigm.
AI for ADANES features a five-layer architecture: integrated data infrastructure, physics-based world models, physical system control, intelligent agent coordination, and continuous improvement. This structure aims to integrate AI throughout the entire lifecycle of nuclear systems, from design to maintenance. The transparency of the system's decision-making processes is aligned with the high safety standards of the nuclear industry.
This effort is supported by CiADS, a national science and technology infrastructure. CiADS serves as a test platform for the engineering validation of ADANES. Additionally, the AI for ADANES Alliance has been established, bringing together research institutions, nuclear companies, financial institutions, and AI firms. This collaboration seeks to bridge scientific validation with industrial application.
